Flexible working hours, work-life balance and working from home are almost indispensable today. Things were different 50 years ago. One person who recognized the added value of flexitime for companies and employees early on was Wilhelm “Willi” Haller. As an expert in “flexitime”, he wanted people to be able to manage their time more freely and go to work when they wanted. To realize his idea, he founded the company Interflex 50 years ago on 9 July 1974 in Durchhausen, Baden-Württemberg. An electromechanical time clock for time recording laid the foundation for the new company.
Interflex grew rapidly and secured its first major international orders. Today, its customers include companies from a wide range of sectors, from the automotive industry to the public sector and critical infrastructure. Some of these business relationships have now existed for more than 25 years. Through the merger with its long-standing business partner Interlock Sicherheitssysteme GmbH in 1986, Interflex also expanded its portfolio to include access control solutions. For example, both companies relied on a patented infrared card reader developed by Interflex. At the beginning of the 2000s, the company became more international - Interflex has been part of the international Allegion Group since 2013.
“Made in Germany has a lot of value. We are clearly committed to Germany - we have production, development and suppliers here.”
Bernhard Sommer, Managing Director
“From the very beginning, Interflex has been about offering customers tailor-made solutions for their requirements and developing them further together,” says Bernhard Sommer, Managing Director of Interflex since 2019. “New technologies and a close exchange with our customers are part of our DNA. Back then, we learned to use the latest technological developments for our solutions. Today, we have a broad range of expertise: from our own hardware to a central software platform and in-house service, through which we advise customers directly from the selection of a suitable solution to commissioning and maintenance.”
The focus will remain on people in the future
In today's working world, it will be more important than ever to relieve the burden on valuable skilled workers and strengthen their personal responsibility with efficient solutions - while taking their individual life situation into account in the spirit of New Work. This is why Interflex will continue to focus on customer-oriented development and consulting in the future. The trend towards collaboration tools in workforce management and the digitalization of HR processes play an important role in optimally integrating employees into working time planning and promoting co-determination.
Physical security will also become more relevant in the future. Against the backdrop of the current legal framework, security must be viewed more holistically as a mix of digital and physical protective measures. In its product development, Interflex will continue to support the desire of many customers for networked access control and system integration in building and security management systems, while at the same time investing in the expansion of cloud services.
